Edo State Cricket Association Holds Coaching Course For Coaches and Captains


A one-day refreshers Coaching Course for Coaches and Captains was held at the Cricket Development Centre, Edo Boys High School, Ugbowo, Benin City.

Giving the welcome address, Chairman, Association of Cricket Coaches of Nigeria(ACCN) Edo State Chapter, Mr. Joseph Okonobo welcomed Coaches, Captains, intending Coaches, Players  and everyone present to the Programme, emphasizing on the need to have specialized training for Coaches of Cricket at all levels.

Edo State Cricket Ag. Head Coach and one of the Resource persons, Mr. Cyril Musa said the refreshers course was aimed at the Fundamentals of Coaching.

“Sports for kids is a means to catch fun and learn, different Coaches have different techniques to coaching but the ability to keep the kids mind to looking forward to something in the next training session is vital.” He said

RDO South-South and Vice Chairman (ACCN) Edo State Chapter and second resource person, Amb. Theophilus A. Ibodeme gave detailed speech on how to Coach and sustain beginners, Coaches and School Management Relations, Sessions Planner and Coaching Time and Duration.


Vice-Chairman, Edo State Cricket Association (ESCA), Abraham Oviawe Esq., gave special appreciation to those present for the course stating that all Coaches in the State must have same Session Calendar for each School so all players will be carried along at same learning speed and length.

The Refreshers Course had a total number of 48 people in attendance and the end of the session paved way for questions and answers.
